This may eventually lead to strained relationship with friends, families and co-workers. Without proper care and treatment the patient may isolate him/herself from the society or may even attempt suicide to get it over.

Causes Of Borderline Personality Disorder

The dark side is that the factors causing the borderline personality disorder are complex and still not fully established. There can be several reasons behind the borderline personality disorder, some of which are:

  • Trauma suffered in childhood
  • Abuse or neglect by parents
  • Jealousy because of preference to other siblings
  • Environment
  • Low confidence
  • Vulnerable temperament or a stressful youth

Some studies suggest that the borderline personal disorder may stem from genes. Moreover it has also been learned that those sffering from this disorder have a close relative with same issue. Other factors attributing to this particular disorder can be physical or sexual abuse.

Other research has examined whether the negative affectivity associated with BPD—that is, the tendency to often feel anger, contempt, guilt, nervousness, and other negative feelings—can be helped by the technique of thought suppression, or consciously trying not to think certain thoughts.

The results of this study found that thought suppression mediated the relationship between negative affectivity and BPD symptoms. While negative affectivity significantly predicted BPD symptoms, this relationship was greatly reduced when thought suppression was introduced into the model. Thus, the relationship of negative affectivity to BPD symptoms is mediated by thought suppression.

In the past the borderline personality disorder was more associated with the schizophrenia. Today it is broadly associated with the emotional instability. There are ten criterion for its diagnosis, out of which five must be present.

The patients are more at risk of developing other psychological problems, such as the depression and anxiety. Another reason behind the disorder is the sense that grows after failing to find a suitable match for him or her.

Diagnostic

Before the Borderline Personality Disorder Test, the disorder has been widely researched with so many publications and journal being released over its diagnostic. The diagnosis involves an assessment by a qualified medical professional. A list of criteria has been maintained in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, which is widely referred for the treatment of the borderline personality disorder.

The clinical assessment is based on this manual. The assessment covers all the aspects of the patient’s experiences as well the observations made by the practitioner.

The resulting report may be used to study the long term behavior patterns of the patient. Additional information on patient’s behavior may be gleaned or learned through the patient’s family, relatives, friends and co workers.
